If you’re using a simple flip phone, most likely you are only using basic functions to communicate on a daily basis. When your local government pushes out an emergency alert to your screen and it doesn’t seem to go away automatically, then you may need to take steps to read or delete them before your phone will work normally again (e.g. make the date/time re-appear on the outside screen).

The following instructions are for the Nubia (ZTE) Cymbal 2 Flip Phone that our store carries.
- Flip open the phone

- Select Messages (… button at the top right)

- Select Options (… button at the top right)

- Press 7 to select Emergency Alerts
[Note: You may want to read each of the emergency alerts to see if any are still relevant to you first before proceeding with deleting them]
- Select Options (… button at the top right)

- Press 3 to select Delete Broadcasts

- Press 1 to confirm with OK

A Second Life for Old Phones
For older or broken phones that have low trade in values (or may not have any trade in value at all), some of them may be refurbished to be put into TELUS Mobility for Good programs to help people in need. These programs may include support for seniors or youth in need, government-assisted refugees, Indigenous women at risk, and more.
For “ancient” devices too old to reuse or too damaged to salvage, parts may be stripped down so that materials may be recycled where possible and any hazardous substances safely disposed.
Knowing that the old phones doing nothing, but sitting in your drawer at home may be put to good use (or at least responsibly recycled to protect the environment), make sure to find them and bring them in to our store!
