FAQ: Workaround to Remove Find My iPhone or iPad using iCloud.com

Before you send away your iPhone or iPad for a repair, trade in or device return, you must log out of “Find My” device. If your device is working, you may try using the device itself to with instructions in our other guide to turn it OFF. However, if you forgot the passcode, your phone is damage or the screen is not functioning, you won’t be able to complete those steps using the device and should read along for the instructions below.

The workaround below should help you as it does not require access to the device you are trying to remove from the “Find My” system and can use any web browser to perform.

You will need to know the username and password of your Apple account AND may need a device currently logged in to be able to complete these process, so make sure you have access before you begin.

Remove Find My iPhone or iPad using iCloud.com
  1. Visit the iCloud.com WEBSITE using your web browser and log in using your username and password.


  2. Enter the Two-Factor Authentication code once it is received on your device.

    If you do not have another device logged in to the same Apple ID, you may try to click “Can’t get to your devices” to see if you’re able to receive a code via text message instead.


  3. If you’re on a personal device you may “Trust” the browser. Otherwise click “Not Now” or “Don’t Trust”.


  4. Scroll down and click the “Find My” icon (circled in RED).


  5. Select the name of the device and click on “Remove”


  6. Click on “Remove” again to confirm.
    (You may need to re-enter your password to confirm if the system prompts you)


  7. Check your device list (circled in RED) to ensure that your phone has now been removed.

    If a screenshot has been requested, please click on the icon for your Apple Account (circled in ORANGE at top right corner) to show the Apple ID you’re signed in to before taking a screenshot.

A Second Life for Old Phones

For older or broken phones that have low trade in values (or may not have any trade in value at all), some of them may be refurbished to be put into TELUS Mobility for Good programs to help people in need. These programs may include support for seniors or youth in need, government-assisted refugees, Indigenous women at risk, and more.

For “ancient” devices too old to reuse or too damaged to salvage, parts may be stripped down so that materials may be recycled where possible and any hazardous substances safely disposed.

Knowing that the old phones doing nothing, but sitting in your drawer at home may be put to good use (or at least responsibly recycled to protect the environment), make sure to find them and bring them in to our store!
